Almost 200 pages, and it's not even done yet. With this much content, there's something for everyone.

Sounds crazy, right? What if you are not into mechsploitation? What if you're a normie like me who read the first WARHOUND story over on AO3 and backed out of the genre entirely as soon as the story wrapped?

What if you're not familiar with Lithuasil's novel and just want the pure, unadulterated Lancer stuff?

Stay for the Angel enemy classes. Stay for the new mechs, new SitReps, new Horrors of War and logistical mechanics. Stay for the fact that Lithuasil has been very clever in how she went about building a Lego set full of blocks that are intended to go together but can still be broken down into the individual pieces if you want to build something else at your table.

Lithuasil has already proven her chops as a fantastic Lancer creator with projects like Nasty, Brutish and Short for the first Lancer Jam and then outdid herself with the even better (in my opinion) The Space Between Heartbeats for the Jam. "by Lithuasil" is a sign of quality.

You could avoid the novel stuff and the mechsploitation stuff entirely and still get tons of milage out of this project. I'm looking forward to the future updates like more Angel options and a full-blown Narrative that puts this monster into motion.

Of course, you could still use *some* of the mechsploitation rules anyway. Gundam was toeing that line with the Cyber Newtypes all the way back in 1985, and the thread continues into the present day with pilots like 621 in Armored Core VI. You could tell a pretty compelling story about modified, depersonalized humans-as-weapons even if you're not interested in bringing kink to your table. Imagine whipping up a bunch of gene-sculpted SSC super soldiers who are experiencing life outside of their bunker for the first time.

I'm about as vanilla/boring/prudish as they come, and I'm still 100% here for the next update.

Review for v0.91 of TODESTRIEB

The Systems:
This is what you're here for.  There's a lot of great ideas here with the Hounds and Handlers alike, and the logistics system seems poised to really shine at helping inject some resource management into the game for that gritty, localized combat theater feeling. The more explicit side of the genre is referenced, but not what I would consider hard-ruled. It will be more up to Handlers and Hounds to flesh out... or hammer out if one has replaced the flesh with steel and circuitry.

The Mechs:
The book recommends 1.5 equivalency for balancing,  which should be a signal that this system is probably not going to work as well for larger groups, but then again if you are into mechsplo then you know how personal the bond between Hounds and Handlers are, so I would highly recommend this for small groups of open-minded people. The new mechs still need some fleshing out, but everything seems to be aimed at making Hounds feel like special, overpowered yet vulnerable pilots. With some numerical tweaks, I think this is definitely geared towards One-Woman-Army style gameplay for Hounds.

The Setting:
Real-world settings just aren't my cup of tea for TRPGs. I would read it in a book, though. Lithuasil provides a snippet from the setting that was quite enjoyable. The system is NOT setting-dependent, so be creative!

TLDR: A lot of good potential and still a work in progress, and if you are a fan of the genre, then you know what to look forward to.

Remember, Dearest Handlers...
Every Hound Has Her Night.

Seriously: Keep an open mind.
How else is Handler supposed to go in and scoop out what doesn't matter so you can be the best pilot and the bestest Hound?
